HTC Mozart 7 – How Good Is It?

    Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Of the five smartphones offered by HTC that run Windows Phone 7, the Mozart may be the best looking one of the group. This is due primarily to a hip unibody aluminum case. The Mozart also has an 8 mega-pixel camera coupled with a Xenon flash. Many other phones in this category only have a 5 mega-pixel camera with an LED flash. The video and music download capabilities of the Zune software will be a big draw for many.

This unibody phone is cut from a single piece of aluminum which is then given a brushed finish. Inside, a 1 GHz Snapdragon chipset is utilized. There is a 3.2 inch SLCD display and the phone has a healthy 8GB of memory. Below the screen there are three backlit buttons and then above the display is the earpiece protected by a grille. Matte silver buttons on the sides control the power, volume and camera. At the top of the phone near the power button is a 3.5mm headphone jack.

HTC has equipped the Mozart with an 8 mega-pixel camera that has an auto-focus feature. This is a strong camera that out-modes many other smartphones in its class. Many other comparable phones are equipped with a 5 mega-pixel camera. This camera does fall short however in its ability to be adjusted. Settings like ISO, EV, sharpness and metering are not adjustable on this camera. The camera also can function as an HD camcorder; however there has been an issue with frame rate reduction in low light conditions.

Music fans will love the HTC 7 Mozart. First, this unit has excellent quality speakers and a high-end sound technology known as SRS WOW HD, which is said to create virtual surround sound. The Mozart is equipped with Zune software, which creates a music, and videos hub, which is used to download your music and videos. For media stored on another device, simply connect wirelessly and you will be able to easily sync your stuff over to the Mozart.

The HTC 7 Mozart scores high points for aesthetics and style, and music lovers will find that this smartphone suits them well. The phone’s fit and finish is top notch and it is fitted with high quality features and software. The 3.7-inch screen and 8 mega-pixel camera will give most of the smartphones on the market a run for their money. Although the camera may cause some concerns, at 8 mega-pixels it will still out perform many of the 5 mega-pixel competitors.

Fixed Line Broadband? Or Mobile Wireless Broadband?

    Saturday, February 12th, 2011

These days, the vast majority of people have internet access in their homes and even the people who don’t currently use it are increasingly getting it installed and making their first forays onto the World Wide Web. It’s relied upon by individuals, businesses and governments alike to undertake a whole range of transactions. When you’re choosing which broadband contract to go with, your main options are fixed line broadband or mobile wireless broadband. These both have their plus points and their negatives. Read on to explore them in more detail.

The main advantages of mobile wireless broadband include the ability to choose between pay as you go options and fixed tariffs. The installation process is also simple – you just plug in your modem and it sorts it out for you. You can also check your emails or catch up on work no matter where you are as you can take your internet with you wherever you go. As your internet is effectively portable, you can also save money by not having to pay to install a line.

While there are undoubtedly quite a few advantages to mobile wireless broadband, it is not without its faults. One of the biggest issues is the fact that, even on the best of tariffs, the download limits are really low. Linked to this, if you exceed your download limit – which is likely when it’s so low – you have to pay typically very high charges. Coverage can also be an issue in rural areas and mobile wireless speeds are much slower than fixed line speeds. They also rarely meet their maximum speed.

Now we move on to fixed line broadband, one of the main advantages of which is that it has a much more consistent connection than mobile broadband. While the speed of it does depend on where you live, it’s generally much easier and faster to download things as you get much faster speeds than with mobile broadband. It’s also becoming more widespread, which makes it increasingly cheap. Also, download limits are often very generous or don’t exist at all, so you’re much less likely to get charged for going over.

There are a few disadvantages to fixed line broadband you should consider, too. One of these is that, obviously, you’re fixed to using it in one place so can only use it in your home. You may also have to pay for a line connection to get it installed and there can be issues if you decide you want to switch provider halfway through a contract – they’ll probably make you pay a charge to switch. Setting up the broadband connection is also a bit more complicated than with mobile wireless.
